What subjects are compulsory?

History or Geography – 3 Periods per week
Physical Education (PE) – 1 Period per week
Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) – 1 Period per week

What are the option choices?

Firstly, students need to decide whether they wish to study combined science (4 periods per week) or triple science (7 periods per week). This then determines which side of the option sheet students need to fill in.

The remainder of the subjects on the timetable are then blocked. Each block contains a wide range of subjects, students choose one subject from each block. Students can find out about each of the subjects offered by reading the Options Booklet, attending the taster lessons in the week beginning Monday 2nd March and communicating with staff who teach the subjects. Parents can find out about the options process by attending the options evening on Wednesday 4th February and can stay informed of the subjects that students are thinking of taking; by discussing their choices and helping them to make decisions.

When will the final choices have to be made?

Year 9 parents are invited to a parent’s evening on Wednesday 11th March 2026, if you require additional assistance with your child’s choices, Mrs Davies will be available to speak to. The option form needs to be completed and handed in by Friday 20th March 2026.
