Homework/Independent Study at Forge 2025/2026

Intent 

At Ormiston Forge Academy, we look to build independence, ambition and challenge in all aspects of student learning. Homework is an opportunity for students to complete independent work away from the support of their teaching staff. We aim to foster independence which will support students to succeed and make progress through the use of independent study. 

Plan for 2025/26 

From September 2025, we will introduce a homework timetable for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Students will receive no more than 5 short homework tasks to complete per week. These tasks will be between 20 minutes and 30 minutes and will take the form of reading, quizzes, or online tasks set through learning platforms used here at Forge. 

Homework will be set through Class Charts and monitored by staff. It will be an expectation that homework will be completed and submitted by the deadline in line with our academy value of aspiration. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they have access to Class Charts to be able to see their homework tasks. 

Failure to submit homework once will result in a B1 with the homework due by lunch the following day. If the homework is not submitted the day after, then students will be given a B2 – Failure to submit homework and will sit a 20-minute detention. A flow chart is shown below explaining the process 

Support in the academy 

A computer suite will be staffed each lunchtime for students to complete homework. If students need technology to complete their homework, computers will be on hand for them. 

Homework Timetables 2025/26 

While there is no set day for subjects to set homework on (due to some subjects having year groups split on the timetable), students will never receive more than 5 pieces of homework per week.  

The information will be included on the weekly parental bulletin so that parents and carers know which week for homework we are in. Paragraph
