A level Courses and BTEC Pathways

All students in the sixth form follow one of the following pathways:

A level Pathway

This pathway includes a combination of 3 A level courses, plus an enrichment qualification and additional enrichment opportunities.

It is possible for a student to combine A level courses with a BTEC course worth the equivalent of 1 A level. Please refer to our A level application form on the application page to see A level and BTEC course combinations that are possible

Medicine pathway. 

This is a pathway for students looking to progress to medical school and study medicine. Those following this pathway undertake A level Chemistry in addition to other facilitating subjects at A level. A level subjects are combined with an enrichment qualification and other enrichment opportunities designed to help prepare for entry to medical school.

Vocational pathway.  

Our vocational pathways consist of one or more specialist BTEC courses, designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to enter specific fields of study and careers. There are five different vocational pathways students can choose from are:

  • The Active Pathway, consisting of the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport
  • The Care Pathway, consisting of the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • The Business Pathway, consisting of the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business
  • The Creative Pathway, consisting of the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and BTEC National Certificate in Music
  • The Flexible Pathway, consisting of the BTEC National Diploma in Business and a BTEC Extended Certificate in either sport, music, ICT or travel and tourism.

Students undertaking a vocational pathway also take an enrichment qualification and additional enrichment opportunities.
