Expectations

As a school we will continue to ensure we set the very highest expectation for our students and young people

Dear parents and carers

I hope this message finds you well. We have been delighted to welcome students back into Forge this week. They have settled into their lessons and routines and we are thrilled at how they have embraced coming back into school. Students in year 7 appreciated the time and space they had in the Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday and we felt this helped them settle in.

As a school we will continue to ensure we set the very highest expectation for our students and young people as they deserve nothing less and it is, rightly, what you should expect from us. It is through these high expectations and standards that we will ensure students are safe and well, make the academic progress they are capable of and are ready for the world beyond the Forge family.

Part of those expectations are of course linked to behaviour and routines, including uniform and presentation. Every school is entitled to set out their own uniform policy and we feel that our approach ensures students are professional in their appearance and ready for the world of work. Not only that, but by following these expectations we are teaching our students to follow and adhere to simple rules and regulations that will enable them to flourish in society.

Our uniform policy has been clearly communicated to all parents prior to the summer break and is outlined on our website. As a school we expect students at all times to wear our simple uniform with pride, this includes but is not exclusive to:

  • Wearing formal shoes (except for PE)
  • Formal trousers – no leggings or tight trousers
  • Knee length skirts – no lycra/stretch skirts
  • Blazers to be worn, shirts tucked in and ties done up at all times
  • Discreet make-up only in years 10 to 11. No make-up allowed in years 7, 8 and 9 – this includes false nails and coloured nail varnish
  • Limited jewellery, including only one pair of stud earrings permitted – no other piercings permitted

The vast majority of our students have returned to school following these expectation and we thank you and them for your continued support. There have, of course, been a few concerns raised which on the whole have been rectified again with your support. We will continue to uphold these expectations as we move through the academic year and beyond. We very much need your support in ensuring consistency so that all students are in line with our expectations.

We are however, acutely aware that there may be questions or concerns linked to our expectations and we would always encourage and welcome open dialogue and opportunities to discuss this in a productive manner. Should you have any questions our student services team are always on hand to support and should always be the first point of contact – the email is below:

I look forward to communicating with you further in the future and thank you in anticipation of your support.

Yours faithfully,

Mr S Lodge
