Update on shoes and blazers

From Monday, 28th June, students will be asked to wear their blazer every day, this includes PE days.

Dear parents and carers,

I’m writing today to ask for your support with our uniform. I regularly walk the site and today I noticed that our uniform standards have started to dip a little and I want to address this so we finish the term on a high rather than start September from a low point.

The main issues are hoodies and shoes. In the main, our students are normally well turned out well and look smart and industrious. But we don’t want to get complacent. I recognise that the pandemic has caused all manner of issues with supply and the inability to change into PE kits in school hasn’t helped. So, from Monday, 28th June, I am proposing a small change.

Students will be asked to wear their blazer every day, this includes PE days. The days are getting warmer so there isn’t as much need for big jumpers. If students get cold, they are welcome to wear the following winter clothing that is listed on our website:

  • Black long-sleeved sports top with Academy logo or the zip-top. Not a hooded top.
  • An alternative to the ‘Forge branded’ top is that students may wear a plain black sweat top/thermal or skin-top underneath the Forge polo shirt. No hooded tops should be worn for PE lessons.

If a student wears the long-sleeved sport top with the Academy logo or the zip-top, they do not need to wear a blazer.

Shoe standards have also started to slip, so I’ve attached a reminder that makes it clear that we expect polishable black shoes in a sensible style (no trainers). On PE days, trainers are acceptable with the PE kit.

We will be asking form tutors and staff to check uniform from Wednesday to ensure that shoes are correct and students are wearing blazers.

Students who have a medical note or ‘adapted’ shoes will continue to be exempt from the footwear guidance. If you have any hardship or financial issues, please contact us and we will endeavour to support you.

I hope that I can count on your support to ensure our students continue to look smart and take pride in their appearance.

Thank you,

Dr Lisa Mason
Principal
