Year 9 Options

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Over the following months, your son/daughter will be selecting the courses that they wish to continue to study throughout Key Stage 4. During this time, they will receive information and guidance from their progress tutor, their teachers and hopefully from you. Students and parents can also discuss options linked to specific careers with our careers advisors at the parental information evenings on Tuesday 28th February and Thursday 2nd March. We have allocated a parental evening for you to attend (based on teaching bands) but if this day is inconvenient, please attend on the alternative evening.

Information about all of the Key Stage 4 courses is in the options booklet that is available on the academy website (paper copies can be provided on request). I would advise all students and parents to read through this information over the coming weeks. Choosing the correct combination of subject options is an important step and reading through the course outlines will assist in this respect.

The options process is outlined below:

  • Wednesday 15th February 2023 – Year 9 Parents’ Evening – Parents and students have an opportunity to discuss progress and potential option choices with teaching staff.
  • Monday 27th February 2023Year 9 assembly to outline the option process to students.
  • Tuesday 28th February 4-5pm (A band) / Thursday 2nd March 4-5pm (B band) Parental information evenings to outline the options process and support available in decision making.
  • Friday 10th March 2023 – Key Stage 4 taster day. Students select potential subjects to have a trial lesson in.
  • Monday 13th March 2023 – Students will be given their option sheet to complete.
  • Monday 20th March – Year 9 – Virtual options consultation afternoon 2-6.30pm. Students and parents can book an appointment with a senior member of staff if they wish to discuss their option choices further.
  • Friday 24th MarchDeadline for submitting option choices.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting Mr Tyrie (Assistant Principal Key Stage 4), Mr Jenks (Assistant Principal Key Stage 3) or me, here at the academy.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C Davies
