WBA player Billy Jones Visits Ormiston Forge Academy

West Bromwich Albion defender Billy Jones took time out to visit a selected group of pupils attending Ormiston Forge Academy. The pupils that gave up two weeks of their school summer holidays to take part in The Albion Foundation Multi Sports camps were given the opportunity to quiz the Baggies No.28  with a variety of questions. Some of which had the defender searching for an answer.

‘Who is your best friend at WBA?’ – “I get a along well with all the lads.”

‘What is your favourite memory as a footballer?’ – “My WBA début when we beat Wolves and Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge. The 5-5 thriller.”

Pupils were completely awestruck with one pupil saying, “Today was the best day ever, I can’t wait to get home and tell all my family, they’re going to be so jealous.”

Whilst visiting, Jones spoke highly of the schools new Attendance Competition to be launched this term admitting, “I had good attendance at school and worked hard, the attendance competition would have made me want to be in even more than I was.”

The attendance competition, to be run across school, will see each year allocated a league and each form allocated a team from Europe’s Elite Divisions. They will then battle it out against each other to achieve the highest attendance at the end of each week. Attendance percentages will be converted into points that will be accumulated as the year goes on.

The winning teams from each year will then go into a ‘Champions League’, with the team sitting in first spot at the end of each term being rewarded for their efforts.

On leaving the school Jones passed one final comment that the pupils can be extremely proud of: “They were a great bunch of kids, really well-mannered and polite, the school seems surprising calm for a school lunch time.”

Miss Goodridge commented, “It was great to see the pupils interacting with such an inspirational person, The pupils managed to develop their listening and speaking skills which was fantastic”.
