Update: Industrial Strike Action

13th March 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

Update: Industrial Strike Action

As you will be aware, following the first two strike days last month, members of the National Education Union (NEU) across England have decided to strike. Strikes are planned to take place across Wednesday 15th March and Thursday 16th March.  These dates will impact on our academy.

As a result of the strike, on 15/16th March, we will not have enough members of staff to safely open the academy to all pupils. We will therefore just be open to pupils on the vulnerable register (you will be contacted directly) and years 11 – 13. All other pupils must remain at home during the days specified above and we ask that they use the time to study independently using work set on Satchel One, Sparx Maths, GCSE POD, Seneca Learning and OAK National Academy.  If your child is entitled to free school meals, packed lunches will be available for them to collect between 12.00pm to 2.00pm.  Vulnerable children and year 11 attending school will need to wear full school uniform.

  • Year 11 – will receive an email from Mr Tyrie explaining about the completion of mocks on Wednesday 15th. On Thursday 16th students will follow their normal timetable as much as possible. Please ensure they arrive in school with revision notes/books on both days.
  • Wednesday 15th March – to arrive and line up on the yard at 9am ready for their mock exam. Normal school finish time
  • Thursday 16th March – to arrive by 8.55 and go straight to period 1 which will start at 9am. Normal school finish time.
  • Year 12/13 – Most year 12 lessons will be going ahead as per their timetable. Students will be notified by Mr Grimes ahead of Wednesday as to which lessons will be taking place. Year 13 students will have the opportunity to come into school to do independent study on these two days as their mock exams have started

We appreciate the inconvenience this will cause for some families, and we thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time. Please note that this is national industrial action impacting on schools across the country, this is not just local action.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or a member of our senior leadership team, and we would be more than happy to speak with you.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Lisa Mason
Principal
