Year 11 Students - letter (sixth form)

Every year, many students decide to stay with us at Forge and progress to sixth form.

Dear year 11 student

As I’m sure you’re starting to appreciate, this academic year is a busy one. There’s coursework to complete, mock exams to reflect on and, of course, final exams to prepare for. Something you also need to devote some time to this year is planning what you intend to do after completing your GSCEs.

Every year, many students decide to stay with us at Forge and progress to sixth form. Next year I would like to see you join the growing number of students who decide to continue their education with us at the Academy and follow either an A level pathway, one of our specialist vocational pathways, or our medicine pathway.

There are many reasons why students decide to stay with us into sixth form. Firstly, our sixth form is a highly successful one; year on year our sixth form students achieve excellent results, which enable them to progress to top universities or begin higher level apprenticeships. Secondly, sixth form students at Forge receive a level of support that really is first class.

Other reasons why sixth form is a great option for you are too vast to detail in this letter. As a result, I would like to invite you to two upcoming events, which will help give you a better insight into our sixth form:

Friday 19th November Sixth Form Taster Day: On this day you will not be in normal lessons during periods 1 to 3. Instead you will spend these periods getting a better insight into sixth form life. You’ll be able to go to different subject areas and get a feel for what an A level of BTEC level 3 lesson is like.

Thursday 25th November- Sixth Form Open Evening 5pm-7pm: Both you and your parents are invited to this evening. It will give you the chance to speak to the members of staff who deliver A level and BTEC level 3 courses, find out about all courses on offer and even meet staff from local universities to learn about where sixth form courses can take you. To control the flow of visitors throughout the evening I would appreciate it if you would arrive between 5pm-6pm if your surname begins with the letters A-L, and 6pm-7pm if your surname begins with M-Z.

I look forward to meeting you at each of these events.

Yours faithfully

Mr D. Grimes
Assistant Principal, Key Stage 5
