Doctor Who Star Lends Vocal Talents to Local School

When Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath needed a voice-over for their Welsh Mountain Centre film, one of the stars of the hit BBC TV show Doctor Who was on hand to help them out.

Nicholas Briggs, who plays the voice of the Daleks, Cybermen and other characters in the BBC TV series donated his vocal talents to the short film for the Forge Mountain Centre. The film will be shown online only and showcases the exceptional facility the academy offers its students and any group who wishes to book it.

Director of marketing at Forge, Kris Griffin, said: “Nick has been a friend to Forge for a few years now and we’re incredibly grateful for his time and support of our literacy projects. When we called him and asked him to do this for us, he was delightful and agreed immediately.

Nick released a BBC fiction book in 2013 called The Dalek Generation and visited Forge to discuss the book with students.

The Mountain Centre in Dynas Mawddwy, located in the Dovey Valley in Wales, has recently be refurbished and has capacity for up to 30 students and 6 members of staff. It provides a unique provision enabling different groups of students to experience a variety of outdoor activities not possible in an urban environment. Some of the activities include: camping, horse riding, canoeing, caving, rock climbing, abseiling and mountain biking. The centre is available for outside hire.

Nick commented: “I’m delighted to be able to support Ormiston Forge Academy as much as I can. I’m a keen advocate of outdoor education and this centre gives young people an excellent opportunity to breath the fresh Welsh air and take part in some very exciting activities.

Nick is also Executive Producer of Big Finish, a company that produces audio-dramas, where he also directs, produces, acts and writes. In late 2013 the BBC showed a docudrama depicting the creation and early days of Doctor Who, called An Adventure in Space and Time, it was shown as part of the programme’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations. Nick had a cameo role in the drama playing actor Peter Hawkins, who was the original voice of the Daleks in 1963.
