City Year

We’ve been working with City Year since September and after a successful first half-term, we felt it was time to introduce you formally.

City Year strive for a society where all children are inspired to believe in themselves and are supported to excel by a generation of young people who commit to a year of voluntary service. City Year corps members act as role models, mentors and tutors, supporting pupils to enjoy and succeed at school. They focus mainly, but not exclusively, on core maths and English for lesson assistance and are assigned a focus list of students to work with.

City Year corps members are volunteers who work within schools to help out the pupils who need them the most; these may be students who are at most risk of not fulfilling their full potential.

City Year at Forge are already working with children in class and last month opened the City Year Homework Club, providing the students with an opportunity to do their homework in school with the support of City Year corps members. The club runs after school every Monday – Thursday until 4:30pm.

That’s just the beginning. Breakfast club is on the horizon and we’re excited to prove how much of an impact City Year can have. Together we’re going to make a real difference to the academic success of our young people.
