Launch Event

Yesterday saw the official launch of the academy. The morning kicked off with presentations from the fabulous Teenage Cancer Trust team. The sessions were so entertaining, but also the serious message was picked up by all. I know that a number of students and staff were moved to tears by the experience.

Students then went into sessions on feelings, healthy living and stereotypes. Every tutor group visited was, without fail, fully engaged in the tasks. Students commented that they really enjoyed the day and the TCT said it was the best school they had worked with.

The afternoon saw a number of influential guests appear at the academy, I was extremely nervous hoping that all would go well. We were joined by Peter Murray (Chairman of Ormiston), Simon Davies (CEO of the Teenage Cancer Trust), James Morris MP and both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Sandwell.

There were a number of speeches, moving poems read by our Y10 and 11 students, entertainment provided by the string section and barbershop quartet and refreshments from the catering group.

Simon Davies and James Morris cut the ribbon and officially declared us open, before the Mayor let off balloons for each student with 100% attendance. Every guest was given a mini-oak tree as a gift for attending.

I am so proud that everyone, without exception, commented upon our academy extremely positively.
