Forge Celebrates Strong Post 16 Results

Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath is today celebrating a very strong set of A level results and continues to confirm its position as one of the top schools in the area for sixth form study.

100% of A level students have achieved three or more A level passes at grades A*-E.  As such, every subject at A level has secured a 100% pass rate with 68% of A level students achieving three or more passes at grades A*-C, enabling them to secure places at their chosen universities, on coveted apprenticeships and selected jobs.

The sixth form students at Ormiston Forge Academy, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), have achieved some excellent results which reflect the hard work and commitment shown throughout their studies.

The percentage of A level students achieving top grades continues to increase at Forge. Overall, 18% of all A level entries are A* or A grades. This represents a 4% increase compared to 2019. Over half of all A level entries are A*- B grades.

Lisa Mason, Principal at Ormiston Forge Academy, said:
“After two years of disruption, these results are the efforts of hours of hard work from students and I’d like to congratulate our students and students up and down the country who are now planning to continue their education or enter the world of work.

“At Forge, the overall progress score for A level students is +0.33 indicating that, as a cohort, A level students have performed above expectations. Likewise, the overall progress score for BTEC students is +0.49, reflecting the exceptional performance of students undertaking applied general courses.

“I am also delighted to see that A level students from disadvantaged backgrounds have performed exceptionally well, matching the performance of non-disadvantaged students and removing barriers to the next stage in their lives.”

Darren Grimes, Assistant Principal for Key Stage 5, said:
“These results are a testament to the hard work of students and the support put in place by families and our teachers. The vast majority of our students will have their choice of university places confirmed, many on highly competitive courses and we are very proud of them all. Many students will be going into employment meaning that the Academy continues to ensure that all students who leave the sixth form at Forge are in education, training or employment.

“It is also pleasing to see students following our medicine pathway have achieved some outstanding results. Each of them have secured the grades required to progress to medical school.

“Our results have shown that over the last few years, students who study in our sixth form do well. We’ve created an environment where they are able to flourish; it’s a safe place where they have academic and pastoral support and the result is that they are happy and successful.”

As well as strong A level results, 100% of students undertaking BTEC courses have achieved qualifications equivalent to three or more A level passes at grades A*-E. Mirroring the success of A level students, the percentage of BTEC students achieving top grades has increased significantly. Overall, half of all applied general entries are either distinction-star or distinction grades. This success means that BTEC students at Forge have secured an average grade of distinction-minus.

68 sixth form students have studied towards an impressive total of 179 A levels this year, across a broad range of 15 subject areas. There were 41 Applied General students with 92 exam entries across 6 BTEC courses.
